Kate Rutherford at Waterworks VIAST Holiday Stop # 9

"Here are some photos of new and exciting additions to my normal Suspended Stone Design collection. This is the only time of year to find both the elegant simple suspended stones, as well as the more creative fanciful pieces that I save just for Vashon. I save my favorite stones for this time of year. Waterworks is the best place to come choose your own stone or gifts for your loved ones."  suspendedstonedesign.com

Donna Romero at Waterworks VIAST Tour Stop # 9

Donna Romero is primarily an oil painter, who also does collage and assemblage, with occasional pastels for fun. She has exhibited on Vashon since 1999, with shows also in Seattle, Friday Harbor and Bainbridge. Donna teaches classes in painting, drawing and printmaking to adults and children through the Blue Heron and privately. Please see more of her work at her web site, donnaromero.com

I am entranced by the play of light and shadow on ordinary objects and familiar places. I paint in oils for their rich color and luminosity. I do collages to satisfy my need to play with shape, color and mood. I also love to play with odd found objects to create assemblages. I seem drawn to the everyday things and environments of home and hearth. I always work from my own photographs. "

Morgan Brig Studio, VIAST Holiday Tour Stop #11

Morgan Brig Studio #11

Copper, torch-fired enamel, fired ceramic and found objects are what I use to create these figurative pieces below. I have a love of the house form too and am creating a multitude of small copper houses for this December Tour. At the very bottom is a studio shot of ceramics in process.

Play Area Studio, VIAST Holiday Tour Stop #3

Sheila Eckman
Play Area Studo

I have always loved geography and maps.  Several years ago I began to collect discarded maps and atlases.  The colors, designs, and images are beautiful, especially in the older maps - cartographers are great artists!  I’ve only just begun to experiment with different ways to use maps and vintage photos in my art.
